OUR PARTNERSHIP

Great sponsors like Public Service Credit Union enhance the learning experience of its students with considerable financial awards and in-kind donations. Access to education due to financial limitations continues to be a barrier to educational success and your support helps to remove that barrier. For that the college, students and our communities are very thankful.

Public Service Credit Union is recognized yearly at the college’s award ceremonies, and at various speaking engagements and community events. Your contribution provides an incentive for our students to strive to do their best. In today’s competitive labour force every scholarship, award and bursary is vital for students as they seek to make an impression on future employers upon graduation.

At CNA we remain committed to our students by keeping tuition fees low and providing additional supports whenever and wherever possible. The ongoing support provided by Public Service Credit Union to our students has proven invaluable, as it helps reduce debt and also provides students with motivation for hard work and dedication to their programs of study.

Public Service Credit Union Support the Single Parent Association

Back-to-school costs can be expensive for any family but for those with only one parent, these costs can be astronomical.  Public Service Credit Union, together with Eastern Edge Credit Union and Reddy Kilowatt Credit Union, takes pleasure in helping community members overcome challenges. And so, we have launched an in-branch campaign to help SPAN fill the backpacks of school-aged children in our area.

Please visit us at 403 Empire Avenue, Eastern Edge at 31 Corey King Drive, or Reddy Kilowatt at 885 Topsail Road and help us help the children. Employees are selling colour printed backpacks for display in-branch. The suggested donation is $1.00 but, of course, any amount would be greatly appreciated. We’ll also gladly accept backpacks and/or school supplies!

Don’t delay! Donations are needed at SPAN by August 28, so time is limited.

We are also very pleased to partner with Kwik Kopy. Tony Cox and his team have generously donated their time and printing costs to produce the campaign collateral and we couldn’t be happier to work with this dedicated and professional group.

Remember the mathSchool + Empty backpacks = Many sad faces.

Please help us change the equation and generate a positive result!

Nepal Region Earthquake Relief Campaign

PSCU, its members, staff and directors contributed $995 to the Nepal Region Earthquake Relief Campaign.

Credit unions in Atlantic Canada have again shown their compassion for those in need through the recent fund-raising efforts for the Canadian Red Cross in support of the Nepal Region Earthquake Relief campaign.

The campaign ran from May 5th until May 31st, and yielded over $10,900 in donations for the cause. The success of this campaign was due in large part to the great efforts of our Atlantic credit unions, and supplemented with the fund-matching initiative carried out with Atlantic Central and League Savings and Mortgage Company.

The Canadian Red Cross fund-raising efforts may continue for a while yet. Tax receipts may not be issued to donors by the Red Cross until their campaign has concluded.

The Canadian Red Cross have asked to pass the following message along to Atlantic credit unions:

"We are so thankful and proud of all of the hard work, time and dedication the Atlantic credit union staff and members provided to the earthquake victims of Nepal. The people of Atlantic Canada are very generous and have come together to help others in their time of need."

Thank You from YACC

"Young Adult Cancer Canada (YACC) would like to send a huge thank you to the awesome folks at Public Service Credit Union (PSCU) for their caring and creative contributions to this year's Shave for the Brave. They teamed with other Credit Unions across the Atlantic Provinces to create an initiative that we've never seen before. In an excellent example of unity they brought together their employees with their members through a series of incentives. They rewarded not just their own Credit Union but the government employees they serve with $500 head start cheques that ensured their cumulative contributions to YACC and to their community far exceeded that which could be achieved by making a one-time donation. Their unique approach, combined with the support of their community, resulted in $25,000 raised in support of young adults with cancer, and that enormous contribution doesn't event include totals raised by the individual government shaves they supported. For all their effort, ingenuity, and support we at YACC want to send all our appreciation and high fives to the Public Service Credit Union.  Thank you PSCU!"

Shave for the Brave Header

Public Service Credit Union offering $500 donation to government Shaves!

Ian and Sean After Shave

The Shave for the Brave at the Public Service Credit Union (PSCU) Empire Avenue branch had two incredibly successful Shavers; Sean Kilpatrick and Ian Barrett raised over $8,000 for possibly two of the most expensive haircuts ever performed in the middle of a bank!

Kilpatrick’s passion for the Shave began last year at the Newfoundland Labrador Housing Shave for the Brave. When he joined the PSCU board he combined his passion for the Shave with his drive to lead by example.

“I felt that the best way to demonstrate the Board’s support was to have a Board member be the first person shaved,” said Kilpatrick.

Once Kilpatrick was on board, Barrett knew he had to follow suit. Besides being the Manager of Finance and an eight-year PSCU veteran, Barrett had a personal connection with young adult cancer. His cousin, Kris Barrett, served on the Young Adult Cancer Canada Board after going through testicular cancer as a young man.

“It is something that impacted me directly and is a great cause to support,” said Barrett.

Their Shave was supported by Reddy Kilowatt Credit Union’s Duffy Place branch and Newfoundland Labrador Credit Union Charitable Foundation, both of which donated $500 each. PSCU supported their leaders with a $1,000 donation as did the Atlantic Credit Union who stepped up with a $2,000 donation. Newfoundland Labrador Housing also supported their Shave with $105 donation.

Throughout the Shave this year, the PSCU has been clear about their goal: They want government offices to get involved with Shave. They put their money where their mouth is by offering a $500 head start cheque to any government employees organizing a Shave for the Brave. So far Nalcor, Newfoundland Liquor Corporation, St. John’s Firefighters, and Atlantic Lottery have all taken advantage of their generous offer.

This isn’t the last Credit Union Shave scheduled this year and they are hoping that more government offices will come on board. If you are a government employee and you would like to receive a PSCU $500 head start cheque toward your own Shave please contact Kelly at Kelly@youngadultcancer.ca or call (709)-700-1972.

Children’s Wish Foundation $7,500

Doug Dewling Chair and Brian Quilty CEO for the PSCU presented $7,500 to Edie Newton Chapter Director with the Children’s Wish Foundation.

Heartfelt thanks goes out to Doug Dewling, Chair and Brian Quilty, CEO, of the Public Service Credit Union for supplying the Children’s Wish Foundation, NL Chapter Office, with the funds to purchase their mascot “Roary” and sibling  bears that each Wish Child and their siblings receive when a wish is approved - for the next 2 years!

The Children’s Wish Foundation grants once in a lifetime wishes to children between the ages of 3 to 17 living with a life threatening illness. We have no waiting list and have never denied an eligible child their wish. At The Children’s Wish Foundation we believe that a rich and wonderful life is measured – not in years – but in precious moments shared with loved ones. That’s why our goal is to create positive, magical experiences for children with life-threatening illness with close family members in mind.

Our long experience tells us that when the whole family is involved in the planning, the anticipation and the fulfillment of the wish – our wish children beam brighter. Our wish families savour every smile, every hug, every second. Since our inception in 1984, we have worked tirelessly to ensure that more than 19,000 wishes have come true for Canadian children and their families; Over 600 of those here in Newfoundland & Labrador. We have built our name on the unparalleled dedication of our staff, our volunteers and our donors who share a heartfelt passion to brighten the spirits of children with serious illness.
