Increased Authentication

MemberDirect® Increased Authentication improves the safety of the online banking environment by adding a challenge question and answer during the login stage. MemberDirect Increased Authentication uses RSA security software to authenticate customers based on their Personal Access Code (PAC) and the specific computer they use to log in. This double authentication helps your financial institution increase protection against fraudulent activity.

How it works

When you log into online banking from a computer that is not registered as trusted, you will have to enter your account credentials. You will then need to answer one of your three security questions.


Interac e-Transfer is fast, secure, and a convenient way for anyone with an email address or a mobile phone number and a Canadian bank or participating credit union account to send and receive money. The sender does not need to know the recipient's institution or account information. Recipients are notified by email and/or text message when a transfer has been sent, and participating financial institutions transfer the funds using established and secure banking procedures. Interac e-Transers can be conducted using online banking or mobile web banking.

Registering your computer for faster logins

You can speed up the login process by opting to register your computer.  When you log in from a registered computer, you don't have to answer a security question.

Registering your home or personal computer is highly recommended for faster logins. You should not register shared or public computers.

Cookies are used to identify registered computers. If you clear your cookies, you will have to re-register your computer.


Updated Security Feature for MemberDirect Online Banking

As part of our continuing commitment to cybersecurity, the reCAPTCHA safety feature has been updated for use with the MemberDirect digital banking system. Enhanced authentication practices are commonplace for online banking and e-commerce platforms, and login features will continue to evolve with advancements in technology. This feature confirms that members are human (and not a robot).

As this version of the reCAPTCHA feature runs in the background, there is no additional action required at login, unless it cannot identify whether you are a human or a robot. After you have entered your online banking information and clicked log in, there are two possibilities. Either you will proceed to the online banking page as normal or you will be given a group of images and be asked to identify and click on images that are being requested. In the example below, a member is asked to ‘Select all images with cars.’ In this instance, the member would select four images: the middle left and the three bottom images.


Once you have selected the images, press "Verify" (or "Next" if displayed). If all the required images were identified, the box will close, and you will be redirected to your Account. If you did not identify all the required images, you will be prompted to re-complete the process.
